Following the military intervention in July 2013, which led to Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi's installation as president of Egypt, this paper examines the measures which the new government has implemented for restricting the activities of civil society, student movements and religious organizations. The author then discusses the factors which led to the consolidation of power by the Al-Sisi’s regime and the implications of this power consolidation for the country's political environment and stability.
