This report discusses the resumption of armed conflict between Mozambique's old civil war adversaries FRELIMO (Frente de Libertação de Moçambique) and RENAMO Resistência Nacional Moçambicana. The author specifically examines the root causes behind the rekindling of hostilities which, questioning the depth of the peace process and the lack of enduring political reconciliation. He concludes that the renewal of armed conflict poses a threat to the country’s development prospects, particularly the exploitation of its coal and gas resources.
