This paper examines the internationalization of China's currency, the renminbi (RMB), since the 2008-2009 global financial crisis and the effect of this on the country's economy as well as other emerging economies. The author also examines the reasons why China decided to begin promoting the internationalization of the RMB following the global financial crisis as well as the problems involved in the currency’s internationalization.
