This commentary examines the development of China’s New Silk Road concept, which the author states initially referred to the creation a network of transport corridors to connect China with the EU, as well as the role this concept plays in China’s domestic and foreign policy. He also discusses how the concept has taken on other goals since its launch in 2013, including the idea of creating new links with the ASEAN countries, as well as prospects for building the links proposed by the concept.
