This commentary examines Russia's military doctrine, which came into effect in December 2014. In particular, the author examines how the doctrine treats 1) the US and NATO; 2) transnational threats and regional conflicts; 3) threats to stability and the incumbent regime from within Russia; 4) non-nuclear deterrence policy; 5) hybrid warfare; and 6) Russian policy toward society and the economy in the case of mobilization. The author also looks at the opportunities for military cooperation between the West and Russia.
