This commentary examines how Muslims around the world responded to the attacks against French satirical magazine "Charlie Hebdo" in January 2015 as well as how the media and society reacted to these responses. The author argues that despite the point that many Muslims showed solidarity with the victims of the January attacks, the media in Europe focused more on those who protested against an edition of the Charlie Hebdo following the attacks. He then discusses what this demonstrates about the expectations of the media in Europe and the impact this might have on prejudices against Islam and the spread of Islamic extremism.
