This paper looks at how the nuclear disarmament agenda and the debate over further reductions of nuclear weapons in Europe have been affected by the crisis in Ukraine. The authors point out that the most important consequence of the crisis in terms of nuclear arms control has been the dramatically worsened relations between Washington and Moscow and give examples of events that have exacerbated this situation. They then argue that existing arms control regimes offer one of the few remaining platforms for cooperation between Washington and Moscow and should therefore be maintained. They finish by suggesting how this can be done.
