This volume includes papers on the strategic context in Europe following the breakdown in Russia-West relations as a result of Moscow’s annexation of Crimea and its involvement in the conflict in eastern Ukraine. In particular, the contributions focus on 1) how Europe should respond to Russia’s rejection of the post-Cold War order, as demonstrated through its actions in Ukraine; 2) the geopolitical situation in Europe and the role of deterrence in a western strategy to deal with Russia; and 3) the impact of the increase in the distribution of global power on Russia and its relations with the West. The volume also includes an overview of a conference on Russian-West relations.
