This paper provides a background to the January 2015 political crisis in Yemen, which the author argues has led the country to the brink of civil war. The author also examines the role played in Yemeni politics by Saudi Arabia and other foreign actors and contends that despite the deeply unstable nature of the current situation in the country, there is some hope for a deal as power-sharing deal remains in the interest of all parties involved. Finally, the author discusses what policy the EU could adopt towards the situation in Yemen.
