This brief explores the history of the US-Iran relationship since the Iranian Revolution in 1979, with a particular focus on how ties between the two countries evolved during the presidential administrations of George W Bush and Barack Obama. Among other issues, the author discusses the importance of Iran's involvement in Iraq for Washington-Tehran ties, the improvement in the relations between Iran and the US, the prospects for further improvements, and the concerns these issues have created in Saudi Arabia and Israel.
