This note outlines some of the social and political conditions which played a part in the 2013/2014 Ebola epidemic in West Africa, and stresses the importance of having local knowledge in preventing the spread of this fatal disease. The author also emphasizes that the traditional healers can be key players in combating Ebola as they have profound knowledge of the local communities and people listen to their advice.
