This paper discusses why the political and economic transitions that occurred in Central European countries such as Poland after 1989 cannot provide a suitable model for reform for Ukraine in 2015. The author first highlights the factors that made Poland's transformation successful in the 1990s and beyond before comparing the similarities and differences between Ukraine in 2015 and Poland in 1989. He also looks at what Ukraine can do to increase the potential for success in its reform program.
