This brief looks at Turkey’s foreign policy in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) since the 2011 Arab uprisings. The authors argue that Ankara's previously permissive policies towards Islamist groups mean that Turkey has lost much of its former prestige throughout the MENA region and among its global allies. They predict that, to regain favor, Turkey will need to turn away from its ideological considerations, seek a rapprochement with the United States and try to repair its relations with other key regional powers.
