This report discusses the promise and prospects of directed energy (DE) weapons, which use concentrated electromagnetic energy and atomic or subatomic particles as a means to incapacitate, damage, disable or destroy targets. The author also provides recommendations for how the US can realize the potential of such weapons in a cost-effective and time-efficient manner.
