This bulletin discusses the performance of French President François Hollande’s economic policy and its impact on the political landscape in the country in the run up to the 2017 presidential election. The author contends that Hollande has been pushed to adopt an economic policy mostly associated with the centre-right, something that has not only alienated many in his own camp, but also failed so-far to bring about the economic recovery it promised. He then discusses how this has led to an improvement of the fortunes of the far right Front National party and what this could mean for the EU.
