This paper examines how Nigeria and its neighboring countries have responded to the cross-border activities of militant terrorist group Boko Haram. More specifically, the authors focus on the National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), a multilateral military operation established by Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Benin in February 2015 to neutralize Boko Haram. In general, the authors argue that although Nigeria joined the task force, it lacks a genuine willingness to engage in regional cooperation. As long as this does not change, they contend, MNJTF will not be able to fulfill its aim.
