This paper argues that the Ukraine crisis offers some important energy security lessons, particularly in relation to Hybrid Warfare. Basically, Russia managed to weave energy -- via the expropriation of Ukrainian energy assets and pressure on energy prices -- into this specific type of war. If NATO is indeed serious about being able to counter hybrid threats in the future, then it needs to apply six energy-related lessons from Russia’s actions in Ukraine, including the need to greater political dialogue on energy developments.
