May 2015

This brief discusses where the fight between the US-led coalition and the so-called Islamic State (IS) stands in May 2015, the growth of IS involvement in Afghanistan as well as the increasing support for IS in western countries. The author argues that IS is demonstrating considerable signs of resilience and that it is starting to become a transnational phenomenon rather than a movement focused on establishing a territorially defined Caliphate in Iraq and Syria.
