This paper examines the EU-Pakistan relationship and the ways in which the EU intends to strengthen its role as a political actor in Islamabad by using its position as a development and aid donor to foster democracy and strengthen institution building in the country. The author also provides a brief overview of the history of EU-Pakistan ties, discusses the level of EU-Pakistan trade, and addresses the challenges that hinder the building of improved relations and increased mutual trust between the two actors.
