This paper discusses the factors behind the Arctic’s growing geopolitical significance and the implications of these for Poland. These factors include 1) the potential for further scientific collaboration in the Arctic; 2) climate change and challenges facing the protection of the regional environment; 3) socioeconomic development in the Arctic; and 4) the developments in the region's fishing, sea transport and extractive industries. The authors also give an overview Polish engagement in the Arctic as well as of regional institutions and cooperation.
