This paper contemplates how both the Saudi-led military action against Yemen's Houthi rebels and the Arab League's decision to set up a joint Arab army should proceed. More specifically, the paper 1) contrasts Saudi Arabia's preference for formal long-term military cooperation with Egypt's desire for ad hoc coalitions, 2) considers the prospect for greater military cooperation among Arab states, and 3) looks at the challenges Arab military cooperation represent for European security.
