This paper discusses NATO's increased presence in the Baltic countries following the 2014 conflict in Ukraine. The authors examine 1) the support that NATO has shown for the Baltic states since the beginning of the Ukrainian conflict; 2) which states have committed themselves to supporting the Baltics in the longer term; and 3) the role of non-aligned states, such as Sweden and Finland, play in NATO's support. Finally, they also discuss whether NATOs presence in the Baltics serves more as a reassurance for allies or a deterrence for Russia.
