This paper compares the political ideas of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper with those of Leo Strauss, especially their doubts about the UN. In the latter case, both men believe 1) the support of Western nations for the UN is symptomatic of a weak-willed liberalism that is unwilling to face its enemies, and 2) it is only by facing off against enemies that nation-states can return to moral and political health. The paper further explains how comparing Harper's ideas with those of Strauss helps clarify Canada's current foreign policy.
