This paper examines the nature of value disagreements with regards to the sovereign debt. The author suggests to examine policies and practices related to debt from empirical but also other points of view. In the context of the institutional arrangements for dealing with sovereign debt, the author suggests to consider criteria of justice, morality and ethics. The paper concludes that disagreements over value figure most prominently in controversies related to sovereign debt.
