This commentary discusses the need for India to take concrete steps in establishing peace and order in the northeast of the country near its border with Myanmar, a region riddled with insurgent groups with diverging aims, objectives and demands. The author then makes a set of recommendations to the Indian government on how to address this problem. This includes 1) concluding final peace agreements with insurgent groups that are already part of the peace process; 2) cracking down on insurgent groups that have not shown willingness to establish dialogue; 3) seeking greater cooperation with Myanmar's government; and 4) setting up a more effective border patrol.
