This bulletin reviews the motives behind China's establishment of the Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in 2013. The authors identify two main reasons for China's creation of the AIIB: 1) to create a source of funds for infrastructural projects and 2) to confirm China’s power and position in the world order. They also discuss international reactions to the bank, including the US refusal to join and its call on its allies to do the same as well as the interest expressed by many EU members to join. Finally, they discuss how Poland's membership of the bank could be beneficial to the country's businesses, including the suggestion that it could increase their international presence.
