This paper discusses Australia's policy efforts to combat terrorism, extremism and radicalization as well as what measures the country should adopt to deal with these issues. The author argues that Australia should not adopt harsh and punitive policies towards those who may be at risk of being pushed into extremism, such as those in the Islamic community in the country. She suggests that, instead, Canberra should openly engage with such individuals and groups, as well as society as a whole, in order to build an inclusive society that prevents division and the potential for it to be exploited.
