This paper examines Israel’s policies towards asylum-seekers from 2002 to 2014. The authors first provide a brief historical overview of Israel's immigration policy and how the system came under growing pressure, first from international migrant laborers, and then from increasing numbers of African asylum seekers, mainly from Sudan and Eritrea. They then examine the approach Israel has taken towards processing these asylum seekers including the legislation amendments and new laws introduced by the government to actively discourage further asylum seekers from entering the country.
