Ahead of Canada's October 2015 federal elections, this paper examines the state of politics in the country, including the positions of the political parties, US-Canada relations, and how the October vote could affect the country's armed forces and its provinces. As things stand, notes the author, the polls suggest that the Conservatives hold an advantage in the elections, however, it is difficult to predict what the final outcome will be. He then argues that Canada will probably only go ahead with existing purchases for its armed forces if the Conservatives are reelected; and that although US-Canada relations are neither at a high or a low, many Canadian's feel that they could be much better.
