This paper talks about “Smart Cities” in which technology and civil engineering have catered to rapid urbanization by improving infrastructure, law enforcement and other services. The paper consists of an introduction to “Smart Cities” and four essays, each of which discusses the lessons learned from the transformation of one specific city, including: New York City, Ahmedabad, São Paolo, and Beijing.
