This paper argues that although the concepts of 'sovereignty' and 'history' are commonly understood by international actors in the context of international politics, China often interprets or applies these concepts selectively in its foreign policy. The authors use two examples to illustrate this point: 1) India’s oil exploration in the South China Sea and 2) China’s infrastructural development in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK) as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project. Finally they discuss how China's view of ‘sovereignty’ and ‘history’ in these two examples should inform the way that Delhi approaches its relations with Beijing.
