This paper discusses the challenges facing Finland’s new coalition government concerning economic and EU issues and how it should respond to these. More specifically, the authors focus on four areas: 1) Finland’s EU policy, 2) the economic situation in Finland, 3) Finnish-German cooperation and their similar stances on EU issues, and 4) Finnish influence in the EU. They argue that to ensure political and economic stability in the country, the government needs to introduce deep structural reforms. Failure to do this, they warn, will not only harm Finland's reputation in the eurozone but also weaken the German-led coalition pressing for structural reforms.
