This paper focuses on China’s cybersecurity regulation policies as well as the implications they have for Chinese society and China’s external relations concerning international cybersecurity cooperation. Among other issues, the authors 1) look at Chinese state responses to the rapid technological development in the cyber sphere; 2) contend that domestic control over social media has been tightened in China and examine the implications of this development; and 3) suggest that there is an internal debate in China over whether the country can effectively identify and respond to cyber threats as well as to what extent China should follow the basic principles of international law in cybersecurity issues.
