This quantitative study, which analyzes historical data from WWII to the present, examines how the introduction of new systems and operational concepts impacted the evolution of two military competitions – submarines versus anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and air attacks versus integrated air defense systems (IADS). The study’s authors also highlight how the common elements of these competitions can be used to create a framework to analyze today’s integrated battle systems.
