In this testimony, CNAS' Ilan Goldberg, discusses what he sees as the strengths and weaknesses of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) agreed to by Iran and the P5+1 countries, as well as the potential alternatives to the nuclear agreement. He then reviews the potential regional implications of the agreement for Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Israel. Finally, he closes with a series of recommendations on how US Congress can exercise its oversight role to improve the likelihood of success of the agreement, while also deterring Iranian aggression in the region and reassuring US regional partners.
