This paper looks at how how protests in Turkey over perceived discrimination against Muslim Uighu in China is having a negative effect on relations between Ankara and Beijing. The author also examines 1) how Turkey-China ties have been affected in the past by issues related to the Uighur minority; 2) how Beijing's measures against Uighurs has led to protests in other Muslim countries, such as Malaysia and Egypt, as well as the implications of this for China's ties with these states; and 3) how China has responded to the protests in Turkey and elsewhere.
