This brief gives a UK perspective on the ongoing military operations the international coalition is undertaking against the so-called Islamic State (IS). In particular, the author 1) provides an update on the state of the war against IS; 2) assesses the reasons why IS has proved so resilient to attack thus far; 3) looks at whether an extension of UK involvement in the war would be wise; and 4) explores some alternative courses of action the UK may wish to pursue in its fight against IS.
