This paper discusses the importance for Poland of increasing its foreign policy focus on Asia and engaging more with the region. More specifically, the author 1) reviews the economic growth and development of Asia as well as some of the key security and stability challenges in the region; 2) looks at existing Polish cooperation schemes with various Asian countries and laments that there is no single regional program and strategy towards Asia; 3) contends that Poland’s engagement in Asia has mainly been driven by economic diplomacy and has brought only modest results so far; and 4) suggests that a clear political signal from the Polish government about the importance of Asia is required. Finally, he provides recommendations for Poland on how to strengthen cooperation with Asian countries.
