As part of her review, the brief's author also considers 1) the deterioration of Egyptian Islamist’s electoral gains; 2) the rising belief within the Muslim Brotherhood that it should eschew elections in favor of violent confrontation; and 3) the troubles secular parties face as they struggle to oppose their Islamist counterparts.
