This paper provides an overview of a workshop on Mexican perspectives on sovereign debt restructuring. More specifically, it looks at 1) the major risks posed to debtor countries, particularly those in the developing world, by the contemporary global economic environment; 2) what lessons can be learned for debt crisis prevention and management from the historic experiences of Latin American countries; and 3) the implications of the emergence of China as a creditor to Latin American governments.
