This paper analyzes the rural development (RD) strategies in Central America. The study examines the challenges for RD and identifies potential responses to rural poverty. The authors highlight the complexity of the problems and suggest a rational balance of economic growth and welfare-based social protection strategies, reflecting the assets and livelihood strategies of the rural poor, and the underlying geographical realities.
