This brief examines the compliance of Italy, Moldova and the EU to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) to highlight the extent to which existing anti-trafficking policy fails to meet the needs of migrant women. The authors also look at the compliance of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime’s (UNODC) to the CEDAW and outline how all the different countries and actors studied fail to meet nearly all of the recommendations of the convention. Finally, they provide recommendations on what the states party to the CEDAW can do to help implement the suggestions of the convention and to deal with the problem of human trafficking.
