This commentary describes the various problems facing the political opposition in Belarus. The author states that the weakness of the opposition and the uncontested status of President Lukashenka since 1994 is largely a consequence of the opposition's inability to develop a common, coherent operational strategy, and gain the confidence of Belorussian society. Ultimately, he argues, the helplessness of the opposition means that Lukashenka will most likely remain unchallenged in the presidential elections in October 2015.
