This commentary argues that although Russia has officially reacted positively to the July 2015 nuclear deal between the P5+1 nations and Iran, the resulting Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) could have an dual-edged impact on Moscow's interests. On the debit side, the agreement could negatively impact Russia’s energy sector and its ability to use its Iran policy as a bargaining chip in Washington. On the positive side, the lifting of sanctions could help Moscow improve its cooperation with Tehran in the nuclear and military-technical arenas.
