This report examines the politics and economics of news media coverage of the peace process in the Philippines between the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the coalition of communist and leftist groups, the CNN. More specifically, the authors examine 1) studies on the reporting of the GPH-CNN conflict; 2) current news coverage of GPH peace negotiations with the CNN as well as the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF); 3) mass media ownership in the Philippines and its possible impact on coverage of the peace process. They also discuss their findings gathered from interviews with members of the press, key informants from the political left, former government negotiators as well as other actors on coverage of the peace process.
