This paper discusses the challenges Myanmar faces in creating an economic environment which maximizes the benefits of foreign direct investment (FDI) and translates into sustainable economic development. More specifically, the author 1) provides an overview of Myanmar's reintegration into the global economic system; 2) discusses the pitfalls and opportunities FDI presents for the country; 3) outlines the necessary steps the government and other stakeholders should take to create a better environment for FDI as well as what the country must do to ensure it can benefit from this.
