This brief discusses the effectiveness of the UK's involvement in the international coalition which is waging war against the so-called Islamic State (IS). The author also 1) provides an overview of the state of the US-led coalition against IS and contends that that it is not succeeding; and 2) questions whether a commitment to continuing and extending air and drone strikes is the most appropriate and useful way that the UK can respond to the crisis.
