This paper examines the reasons why Georgia feels it needs to make major investments in the development of its military capabilities as well as the country's military modernization efforts since the 2008 Russia-Georgia War. The author contends the are two reasons why Georgia is seeking to provide state-of-the-art equipment for its military: 1) to deter Russia from undertaking aggressive actions against the country; and 2) Georgia's participation in military operations abroad. She also argues that 1) Russia's annexation of Crimea has made Georgia realize that it must now rebuild the military capabilities destroyed in the 2008 war; and 2) that the rejuvenation of Georgia's armed forces will only be possible if the country continues to further expand its national defense industry collaboration with partners in NATO.
