In this transcribed speech, the Chief of the Defence Staff of the British Armed Forces, General Sir Nick Houghton, focuses on the UK's 2015 Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR). In particular, Houghton zeros in on 1) the heterogeneous global security context; 2) the threats posed by information warfare; 3) the growing restrictions on the use of force, particularly by Western nations; and 4) the obvious mismatch between the capabilities of today’s armed forces and what they’re being asked to do. Based on these preliminary observations, Houghton then concludes his presentation by citing the capabilities and policies the UK should develop to deal with its security obligations.
