This paper examines cotton subsidies and their impact on Africa. The author claims that cotton trade and production are highly distorted by trade policy. The study highlights the depressed world cotton prices and explains how such prices damage those developing countries that can only rely on cotton exports for a substantial part of their foreign exchange earnings. The author details several of the relevant policy implications of cotton subsidies.
